Hi, I am the great great grandson of Jose Da Silva (born 1825)from Cabo Verde who arrive in Honolulu via a whaling ship and married (1872) Emalia Watson (born 1856).  I don't have much information about Jose except I did read a in a legal document I have that he had a son in Cabo Verde that was left behind when he took the job on the ship that ended up here.  The name of the son on my document is Thomas or Tomas Silva.  I have a copy of the naturalization records that gives the place of birth of my great great grandfather as Fayal Azores.  That's how it's spelled on the list.  So I can't be certain if he was, in fact, born in Faial, Azores, or on Brava, Cabo Verde.  His son, Joseph Edward Sylva is my great grandfather, but my grandfather, Joseph Ignacio Lulilo Sylva was from the first wife, Santo Martinez, an immigrant from Puerto Rico who arrived in Hawaii in 1902.  The children of Mary Nawai Haake are my grandfather's half siblings.  It would be great to learn more about Jose and where he came from, and if there are any relatives still out there in the Azores or Cabo Verde.      Ray SylvaPearl City, Hawaii
